Holy Week Day 5

Pre K

Read: Luke 22:7-22: It was the Festival of Unleavened Bread and Jesus sent Peter and John to make preparations for the Passover Feast. At the feast Jesus told his disciples that he would have to suffer so they could live in his kingdom forever. He took the unleavened bread and said it was his body that would given for them (on the cross). He took the cup and said it was his blood that would be poured out for their sins.

Jesus wants us to live in his kingdom forever. He wants us to be his people for all eternity. But we sin. Sins are the bad things we do like lying, yelling at each other, hitting our brother or sister. Our sins make it impossible for us to be in God's kingdom. Our sins stain us. He knew the only way we could be cleaned of our stains is by giving up his life for us. He experienced death and punishment so that we could live forever as God's children. Jesus is our hero. This week we remember that he died to rescue the world. And in a few days we will remember that Jesus will also defeat death. He will come back to life.

Q: Do you know what we have crosses in our church? To remind us that Jesus died on a cross to rescue us.

Act: Lets draw a picture of a cross.  We will put it up to remind us that Jesus died for us.

Pray: Thank you Jesus for dying for our sins. Thank you for rescuing the world. We know that the grave could hold you, that you came back to life! Amen.

Read: Luke 22:7-22:

Then came the day of Unleavened Bread on which the Passover lamb had to be sacrificed. 8 Jesus sent Peter and John, saying, “Go and make preparations for us to eat the Passover.”

9 “Where do you want us to prepare for it?” they asked.

10 He replied, “As you enter the city, a man carrying a jar of water will meet you. Follow him to the house that he enters, 11 and say to the owner of the house, ‘The Teacher asks: Where is the guest room, where I may eat the Passover with my disciples?’ 12 He will show you a large room upstairs, all furnished. Make preparations there.”

13 They left and found things just as Jesus had told them. So they prepared the Passover.

14 When the hour came, Jesus and his apostles reclined at the table. 15 And he said to them, “I have eagerly desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer. 16 For I tell you, I will not eat it again until it finds fulfillment in the kingdom of God.”

17 After taking the cup, he gave thanks and said, “Take this and divide it among you. 18 For I tell you I will not drink again from the fruit of the vine until the kingdom of God comes.”

19 And he took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to them, saying, “This is my body given for you; do this in remembrance of me.”

20 In the same way, after the supper he took the cup, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood, which is poured out for you. 21 But the hand of him who is going to betray me is with mine on the table. 22 The Son of Man will go as it has been decreed. But woe to that man who betrays him!

Jesus wants us to live in his kingdom forever. He wants us to be his people for all eternity. But we sin.

Q: What is sin?

Sins are the bad things we do like lying, yelling at each other, hitting our brother or sister.

List: Lets both name some sins we have seen or done this week?

Have your child pray: Thank you Jesus for dying for our sins. Thank you for rescuing the world. We know that the grave could hold you, that you came back to life! Amen.

Jesus knew the only way to rescue us was to give up his life. Read Exodus 12:1-16. List the similarities between this passage and the passage in Luke.

What does it mean for Jesus to say that his blood is the covenant by which we are saved (Luke 22:20)?

Pray: Spend time in prayer thanking Jesus for being the Passover Lamb whose blood has saved you from destruction.
