*You will need blocks

Read Genesis 11:1-4: Now the whole world spoke the same language. The people said to each other, “Come let us build ourselves a city, with a tower that reaches to the heavens, so that we can be famous.”

Say: God wants us to choose him over our own glory. He wants us to pursue him over earthly success.

Act: Let's make a big tower with these blocks. This is the tower of Babel. Now lets tear it down to make a home. This is our home with God. This home is far greater than any tower we could ever build.

Pray: God, please help _______ to choose you over any earthly gain. May our reward be our relationship with you.

Elementary

Read Genesis 11:1-4: Now the whole world had one language and a common speech. As people moved eastward, they found a plain in Shinar and settled there. They said to each other, “Come, let’s make bricks and bake them thoroughly.” They used brick instead of stone, and tar for mortar. Then they said, “Come, let us build ourselves a city, with a tower that reaches to the heavens, so that we may make a name for ourselves; otherwise we will be scattered over the face of the whole earth.”

Say: God wants us to choose him over our own glory. How did these people in the story pursue their own glory?

Q: What about a time you wanted to be better than everyone else? (share a personal story about a time you sought personal glory)

Q: How can you put God first? How can you make him more important than worldly gain and personal glory? (give some examples of putting God first)

Have your child pray: God, help me to put you first. I know you made me to give you glory. Amen.

God wants us to choose him over our own glory. He wants us to pursue him over earthly success.

Can you think of a time you wanted something so bad you kept it to yourself?

What about a time you wanted to be better than everyone else? Humanity has a natural desire to put its' personal gain and glory before others and God.

How can you put God first today?

How can you make him more important than worldly gain and personal glory during the week?

*Meditate in prayer and let Jesus reveal ways you can put him first this week. Write these ways in your personal planner/calendar as a reminder that your main objective in your daily life is God.
