Read Genesis 15:12-16: "As the sun was setting, Abram fell into a deep sleep, and a thick and dreadful darkness came over him. Then the Lord said to him, “Know for certain that for four hundred years your descendants will be strangers in a country not their own and that they will be enslaved and mistreated there. But I will punish the nation they serve as slaves, and afterward they will come out with great possessions. You, however, will go to your ancestors in peace and be buried at a good old age. In the fourth generation your descendants will come back here, for the sin of the Amorites has not yet reached its full measure."
God is telling Abraham that his children will suffer. They will have bad days on this earth. In fact they will become slaves of evil oppressors. But God promises to come to their rescue. Sometimes we have bad days. Days where nothing goes right. Some days we get hurt or make bad decisions.
Q: What does a bad day look like to you?

God is telling Abraham that his children will suffer. They will have bad days on this earth. In fact they will become slaves of evil oppressors. But God promises rescue them. Sometimes we have bad days. Days where nothing goes right. Days where we feel like giving up because all seems lost. Some days we get hurt, on others we make bad decisions.
How do you act towards other when you are having a bad day?
How do you treat God?
The people of God have hope. Jesus promises to rescue us. One day we will "put this world to rights". As it says in Revelation 21, one day their will be no more death or tears. Our God who will make this world new.
Write on a "post-it"- "The kingdom will come. Darkness will turn to light and Jesus will be king." Let this be a reminder on bad days of our future hope. This reminder can inspire us to be a people who live in the kingdom now.Spend time in prayer giving the broken things in your life to him. Then listen for God, perhaps he will speak to you.
