Genesis 16:4b-6

*You will need to make a card with construction paper, writing utensils and perhaps stickers.

Say: In Genesis 16 Sarai decides not to wait for God. She thinks she knows better so she takes matters into her own hands. Because she doesn't wait for God she experiences bad stuff. Sometimes God wants us to wait because he knows if we don't we may cause ourselves and others pain. But rather than saying sorry- she blames other people.

When we do something bad- we are supposed to say sorry. Not blame someone else. A good way to say sorry is by making an "I am sorry" card. (This might be a good card for your child to give away if they were misbehaving in nursery recently)

Pray: God, sometimes we do bad things and we are sorry. Amen.

Q: Can you think of anyone you need to say sorry to right now? When was the last time you said "sorry"?

Read Genesis 16:1-6:  Now Sarai, Abram’s wife, had borne him no children. But she had an Egyptian slave named Hagar; so she said to Abram, “The Lord has kept me from having children. Go, sleep with my slave; perhaps I can build a family through her.” Abram agreed to what Sarai said. So after Abram had been living in Canaan ten years, Sarai his wife took her Egyptian slave Hagar and gave her to her husband to be his wife. He slept with Hagar, and she conceived. When she knew she was pregnant, she began to despise her mistress. Then Sarai said to Abram, “You are responsible for the wrong I am suffering. I put my slave in your arms, and now that she knows she is pregnant, she despises me. May the Lord judge between you and me.” “Your slave is in your hands,” Abram said. “Do with her whatever you think best.” Then Sarai mistreated Hagar; so she fled from her. Sarai did not want o except blame for this situation. She shirked the primary blame on her husband and then took it out on Hagar.

Is there a sin in your life that you are not taking the blame for?

How often do you blame others for your troubles? When was the last time you humbly said "I am sorry" in a situation in which you were only partially to blame? Is there someone you need to call right now and humbly apologize. *Do it.

Spend time in prayer repenting of any wrongs you have been partially or fully responsible for? Ask God to reveal the areas of your life that you need to turn over to him.
