Our God Can Hear

Pre K

*You will need a sheet of paper and tape.

Read Genesis 18:20-21: God said to Abraham: I am here because the peoples of Sodom and Gomorrah have been mean to others and I care about my children. I can hear that my children are sad.

Say: God cares about us. He doesn't like it when people are mean to each other. He wants his children to be loving and caring. So when he hears people cry he wants to help them.

Act: With this sheet of paper and tape we are going to make an ear horn. Then we will be able to hear even better when we use it. Notice how you can hear even more? Across the room I will talk quietly and we will see if you can hear what I am saying.

Think about this: God can hear anything! He can hear when we are happy or crying. He hears all our prayers. He cares about us.

Pray: God, thank you for always listening for us. Amen.

Q: Can you think of a time someone was mean to you?

Q: What did you do?

He wants his children to be loving and caring. So when he hears people cry he wants to help them. We should tell an adult when someone is being mean. You should tell us too. Because like God we care.

Amen.

Elementary

Read Genesis 18:20-21: Then the Lord said, “The outcry against Sodom and Gomorrah is so great and their sin so grievous that I will go down and see if what they have done is as bad as the outcry that has reached me. If not, I will know.”

Say: The people of Sodom and Gomorrah were being horrible to each other. The stuff they did was so bad it would be on the news today. God cares about us. He doesn't like it when people hurt each other.

Q: Where have you seen someone mistreat someone else?

Q: What did you do?God wants his children to be loving and caring. So when he hears people cry he wants to help them. Often he wants us to do something. To tell someone who can stop it.

Q: Why is hard to do something when we see someone mistreating someone else?

God wants us to care like he does.

Let your child pray: God, thank you for caring about us. Help us to care like you. Amen.

Developing Disciple

Read Genesis 18:20-21: Then the Lord said, “The outcry against Sodom and Gomorrah is so great and their sin so grievous that I will go down and see if what they have done is as bad as the outcry that has reached me. If not, I will know.”

The people of Sodom and Gomorrah were being horrible to each other. The stuff they did was so bad it would be on the news today. God cares about us. He doesn't like it when people hurt each other. He wants to end injustice.

Q: What did you do the last time you saw an injustice (someone mistreating someone else)? All humanity is flawed. We all have mistreated someone.

Q: When was the last time you were mean to someone else?

Q: Have you repented of this?

Q: Have you asked them for forgiveness?

Call or write them if you have not apologized.

Spend time in prayer asking God how you can care about injustices in our world. Ask him to reveal ways you can be a part of his solution for our broken world. Ask him to bring people in your life to help and love.
